Abstract:For teeth exhibiting extensive hard tissue loss as a result of caries or trauma, following comprehensive root canal therapy, the residual dental structure is frequently inadequate to ensure sufficient resistance and retention forms. In such cases, the application of post-and-core systems becomes a critical step in achieving necessary support and retention for full-coverage restorations. With the implementation of post-core systems, the stress distribution pattern and mechanical strength within the dentin have experienced substantial modifications. These biomechanical changes have a direct impact on the long-term prognosis of the affected tooth.Consequently, optimizing biomechanical performance to reduce stress concentration within dental tissues and mitigate fracture risks remains a pivotal research focus in prosthodontics during the design of post-core crown restorations.Finite element analysis(FEA),by simulating the mechanical behavior of teeth and their supporting structures, provides accurate prediction of stress distribution, enabling clinicians to optimize treatment protocols and enhance restoration success rates. This paper reviews the application of FEA in stress analysis for post-core crown restorations and discusses critical considerations in post-core crown rehabilitation.
