Abstract:Objective Cone-beam computed tomography(CBCT)was utilized to assess the residual alveolar bone volume in the maxillary posterior region and the morphology of the maxillary sinus floor in elderly patients, with the objective of providing an anatomical reference for implant treatment in this area. Methods A total of 348 edentulous sitesfrom156 CBCTs were evaluated. The bone height and crest width were measured in sagittal and coronal slices, respectively.Additionally, the obliqueness of the sinus floor at the edentulous sites was also evaluated. Results Among 142 premolar sites,80(56.34%)had an alveolar ridge height≥7 mm,while 69 out of 206 molar sites(33.50%)exhibited a ridge height≥7 mm.Regarding alveolar ridge width,67 premolar sites(47.18%)and 82 molar sites(39.81%)measured≥6 mm.Across the 348 edentulous sites,188(54.02%)demonstrated an inclined sinus floor morphology. The distribution between premolar(48.94%)and molar regions(51.06%)showed no statistically significant difference in the prevalence of inclined sinus floor morphology(P>0.05).Conclusion Among the elderly population, the loss of multiple posterior teeth and insufficient bone volume are relatively prevalent.A comprehensive understanding of the morphology of the maxillary sinus floor in the edentulous region prior to surgery is essential for improving the long-term success rate of implant therapy.
