Clinical progress of combined periodontal and orthodontic treatment for periodontitis

Abstract：Periodontitis is an important disease that affects oral health.In recent years,more and more patients with periodontitis have visited orthodontic departments due to tooth displacement caused by periodontitis.Therefore,the orthodontic treatment of periodontitis patients has attracted the attention of clinicians.Orthodontic treatment can improve problems such as occlusal trauma and anterior teeth fan-shaped displacement caused by periodontitis,and is beneficial for controlling periodontal inflammation and stabilizing periodontal health.At the same time,complete basic periodontal treatment is the prerequisite for orthodontic treatment of periodontitis patients.However,orthodontic treatment for periodontitis patients is highly risky and difficult,and requires high diagnostic and treatment capabilities of orthodontic doctors and periodontists.This paper provides a review on the diagnosis and communication of orthodontic treatment for patients with periodontitis,the indications and timing of treatment,the consideration of risks during treatment and corresponding strategies,the maintenance after treatment,as well as the expression of some related serum inflammatory factors in the combined periodontal and orthodontic treatment.
