Research progress on portable and mobile dental treatment units

Abstract：Portable dental treatment units,characterized by their mobility,comprehensive functionality,and practicality,have demonstrated significant value in providing medical assistance in remote areas,delivering bedside diagnosis and treatment for special populations with limited mobility,and facilitating home-based oral care for the elderly.Internationally,extensive research and application of portable dental equipment have been conducted,primarily focusing on home oral care and emergency medical rescue scenarios.In contrast,the development of portable dental devices in China began relatively late but has progressed rapidly in recent years.Notable advancements include portable light-guided integrated treatment units and digital oral healthcare vehicles.However,these devices often face challenges such as bulky size,excessive weight,and difficulties in widespread adoption.Consequently,the development of compact,multifunctional dental treatment units suitable for diverse oral healthcare settings,including homes and schools,represents a key trend in the evolution of this technology.This article provides a comprehensive review of the significance of portable dental device development,the current research landscape both domestically and internationally,and emerging trends in this field.
