Application of replicating therapeutic dentures in complete denture prosthetics

Abstract：Objective To investigate the clinical application of replication therapeutic denture technology in complete denture restoration for patients with total tooth loss and to assess its clinical efficacy.Methods Edentulous patients admitted to the Department of Prosthodontics of the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University from January 2022 to January 2024 were selected.Eight cases were screened out based on the experimental criteria.Following initial prosthetic restoration,they underwent weekly follow-up visits during which their prostheses were adjusted and relined as necessary until optimal fitting was achieved.Subsequently,duplicate prostheses were fabricated using prosthesis replication techniques.Functional impressions were obtained using the duplicate prostheses,and the final prostheses were constructed accordingly.After placement and adjustment of the final prostheses to ensure proper fit,patients completed the visual analogue scale(VAS)to evaluate their satisfaction with the prostheses.Results Seven patients could adapt to the final dentures within 1-2 weeks after restoration using the duplicate dentures technology.The final dentures could be seated smoothly,with good retention and stability,satisfactory chewing function,and excellent aesthetic outcome.The VAS score of the dentures were all above 8 points,met the standards of excellence.One patient failed in the restoration due to overly high expectations for the complete dentures.Even after prolonged follow-up visits,the functional requirements expected by the patient could not be met.Conclusion For patients whose old dentures can no longer meet functional needs and require new dentures,or those who have had removable dentures with retaining rings and sufficient base coverage for many years and still have remaining teeth that are non-functional and are about to be extracted,or those with poor alveolar ridge conditions and no history of complete denture restoration,the duplicate dentures technology enables patients to have teeth available during the process of making new dentures,shortens the adaptation time to new dentures,and significantly enhances the success rate of complete denture restoration.
