Abstract:The facial nerve runs superficially and is prone to injury. Moreover, due to the lack of sufficient blood supply and cells, the injury is difficult to repair, resulting in impaired physiological functions of the maxillofacial region and affecting normal social life. Therefore,it is of vital importance to achieve functional repair of facial nerve defects.Collagen in existing repair materials shows great potential for development.Based on animal experiments as the main reference and combined with partial case analyses, this paper will introduce the research progress, repair effects and application results of collagen in facial nerve defect from three aspects:preparation materials, technology, repair cells, and nutritional factors. We found that collagen materials cannot provide sustained nutrition and meet repair needs for damaged nerves solely through the selection of suitable composite materials and emerging technologies in promoting nerve regeneration. On this basis, the fusion of cytokines can enhance the biomimicry of the conduit, ultimately achieving the goal of rebuilding nerve tissue in the conduit. This provides a more effective solution for the clinical application of collagen therapy in repairing facial nerve defects.
