Correlation analysis of senile frailty and oral health

Abstract：Objective To analyze the correlation between senile frailty and oral health by conducting questionnaire surveys and oral examinations on elderly inpatients,and to provide a basis for the prevention of senile frailty.Methods A total of 156 elderly patients hospitalized in the General Practice Department of the 988 Hospital of the Chinese People's Joint Logistic Support Force from September 2022 to September 2023 were enrolled,and the FRAIL patients were divided into a non-frail group(84 cases)and a frail group(72 cases)based on the Frail Screening Scale(FRAIL)score.The general data questionnaire and simple nutrition assessment form were used to evaluate the general condition of the patients.Oral health was also assessed by an oral specialist.General data and oral examination results were compared between the two groups.Results There were statistically significant differences in age,widowness marital status(widowed or not),chronic disease type,medication type,MNA-SF score,weekly number of physical exercise,number of tooth pain within 1 year,depth of periodontal examination,clinical attachment loss,dentition integrity and defect repair between 2 groups(P＜0.05,P＜0.01).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that senile frailty was closely related to age,type of chronic disease,type of medication,weekly number of physical exercise,depth of periodontal examination,clinical attachment loss and dentition(P＜0.05,P＜0.01).Conclusion The proportion of elderly patients with frailty is high,and the oral health status is poor,the two affect each other.Strengthening the elderly oral health screening,regular oral examination and timely treatment of oral diseases are conducive to maintaining good oral health in the elderly.
