Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of orthodontic treatment (OT) on the efficacy of regenerative periodontal surgery (RPS) for patients with Ⅳ periodontitis in the early (1 month after surgery),mid-term (3 months after surgery) and late (6 months after surgery) period after RPS.Methods According to different orthodontic timing,60 patients with stage Ⅳ periodontitis were randomly divided into early (20 cases),intermediate (20 cases) or late (20 cases) orthodontic groups after RPS.The changes of clinical attachment level (CAL),periodontal pocket probing depth (PPD),bleeding on probing (BOP) and periodontal pocket closure rate were observed and compared between the 3 groups after 12 months of RPS.SPSS 21.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results The postoperative CAL increments of patients in the early, middle and late OT groups were 5.04±2.38,5.00±1.54 and 4.95±1.27mm,respectively.And the PPD reductions were 4.07±2.23,3.84±1.63 and 3.53±1.97mm,respectively.There were no statistically significant differences between the groups (P>0.05).In terms of the periodontal pocket closure rate (PPD≤4mm),the three groups were 90%,90%,and 80%,respectively,and the positive BOP sites were reduced by 30%,25%,and 25%,respectively,with no statistical difference (P>0.05).Conclusion The results of this study suggest that in the interdisciplinary treatment of patients with stage Ⅳ periodontitis,OT can be performed 1 month after RPS,which can not only ensure the treatment effect, but also shorten the overall treatment time.
