Effects of Traditional Impression Technique and Closed-Mouth Two-Stage Impression Technique in Denture Rehabilitation for Edentulous Elderly Patients

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the application effect of traditional impression method and closed-mouth secondary impression method in elderly patients with edentulous denture restoration.Methods A retrospective study was conducted on elderly patients with denture restoration who were treated in Shunyi Hospital of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from June 2018 to June 2023,and 82 of them were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria.The patients were divided into the traditional group (traditional impression method,33 cases) and the closed-mouth group (closed-mouth secondary impression method,49 cases) according to the denture restoration method.The baseline data of the two groups of patients were compared,and the clinical efficacy of the two groups of patients after the completion of denture restoration was compared,and the differences in denture function,quality of life and satisfaction with denture restoration between the two groups were observed.Results There was no significant difference in baseline data between the two groups (P>0.05).After repair,the language function and comfort of the closed-mouth group were significantly better than those of the traditional group (P<0.05).At 6 months after repair,the masticatory efficiency,biting force and quality of life in the closed mouth group were significantly improved compared with the traditional group (P<0.05).The repair satisfaction of the closed-mouth group was significantly higher than that of the traditional group (P<0.05).Conclusion Compared to the traditional impression method,the closed-mouth secondary impression method is better clinically applicable in elderly patients with edentulous jaw.
