Abstract:Objective To investigate the influencing factors affecting oral health-related quality of life in elderly patients with burning mouth syndrome(BMS).Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted on 85 elderly patients with BMS admitted to the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Guilin Medical University and Xinhua Hospital,Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine from December 2022 to November 2023,.oral health impact profile-14(OHIP-14)was used to evaluate the oral health-related quality of life in patients. The general demographic information of the patients was collected using the case record table, and the correlation between pain, anxiety, depression, sleep disorders and oral health-related quality of life was analyzed. The risk factors affecting oral health-related quality of life of patients were screened by multiple linear regression analysis. Results The average OHIP-14 score of 85 BMS patients was 10.36±6.58.The OHIP-14 score of patients with systemic concomitant symptoms was higher than that of patients without concomitant symptoms, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Pearson analysis showed that pain, anxiety, depression, and sleep disorder and oral health-related quality of life were positively correlated(P<0.05).Multiple linear regression analysis showed that pain(B,0.975;95%CI,0.380-1.570),anxiety(B,0.314;95%CI,0.072-0.557),and sleep disorder(B,0.359;95%CI,0.075-0.643)were the influencing factors of oral health-related quality of life in patients with BMS(P<0.05),R2=0.664,indicating that a total of 66.4%of the variance in the oral health-related quality of life was explained, and R2=0.643 after adjustment, indicating that a total of 64.3%of the variance in disease-related knowledge was explained after adjustment. Conclusion Pain, anxiety, and sleep disorder may be risk factors of oral health-related quality of life in elderly patient with BMS.The types and extent of pain, psychological and sleep disorders in BMS patients need to be identified to develop a multidisciplinary treatment plan to improve patients'oral health-related quality of life.
