Abstract:Temporomandibular joint osteoarthrosis(TMJOA)is an important subtype in the classification system of temporomandibular disorders. The main pathological features of TMJOA are progressive cartilage degradation, remodeling of the subcartilage bone, and chronic inflammation of synovial tissue, which can cause severe pain and dysfunction.TMJOA's treatment strategy aims to relieve pain and restore joint function. At present,non-surgical approaches are the most common clinical treatment for TMJOA.For the most part, these treatments are effective in relieving clinical symptoms and signs. In recent years, with the development of tissue engineering, more ideas have been provided for the clinical treatment of TMJOA.This article reviews the commonly used diagnostic and treatment methods and basic research progress of TMJOA at present.
