Investigation of the relationship between oral health status and quality of life related indicators among seniors-Analysis reusing interRAI data

Abstract：Objective:The relationship between oral health status and quality of life (QOL) of elderly people in Dongcheng district of Beijing was analyzed by using InterRAI-HC (internaitonal resident assessment instrument-home care-home) scale.Methods:192residents were assessed by interRAI.Age,sexual and the oral health related parameters (removable denture,not intact natural teeth,dry mouth,chewing difficulties) were analyzed with the following indicators related with Quality of life:Activities of daily life(ADL),instrumental activities of daily life (IADL),depression rating scale (DRS),and mode of nutritional intake.The data were analyzed using Chi-square test and Binary Logistic Regression.Results:Dry mouth is significantly correlated with DRS (P＜0.01),(OR:3.230,95％ CI:1.729-6.034).Also chewing ability is significantly correlated with the mode of nutritional intake (P＜ 0.01),(OR:39.006,95％CI:7.914-192.259).Conclusion:The oral health status of the elderly is closely related to the level of depression and the way of nutrition intake,which affects the quality of life of the elderly.
