Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the shaping efficacy of S3 files,M3-pro files and Protaper files in simulated curved canals in vitro. Methods:Thirty resin blocks with simulated curved canal (curvature 23 ~25°) were randomly divided into three groups, each group was prepared with S3,M3-Pro and Protaper, respectively. The root canal was prepared with M3-Pro file and Protaper file.Digital photographs were taken before and after operation, and the centerline of root canal was drawn. The variation of working length, bending angle and root canal deviation were analyzed. Results:Reductions of working length after preparation of group S3 were significantly less than group M3-Pro and group Protaper (P<0.05).Curvature changes were not significantly different among the three groups. At the 0mm,2mm,5mm,6mm and 7mm points, the center line offsets were not significantly different among the three groups. At the 1mm point, the offset of group Protaper was significantly less than group S3 and group M3-Pro (P<0.05).At the 3mm and 4mm points, the offsets of group Protaper were significantly more than group S3 and group M3-Pro(P<0.05).At the 8mm point, the offset of group S3 was significantly less than group M3-Pro and group Protaper (P<0.05).At the 9mm,10mm and 1 1mm points, the offsets were significantly different among the three groups (P<0.05).The offset of group S3 was the smallest and of group Protaper was the biggest.Conclusion:S3,M3-Pro and Protaper caused transportation when preparing curved root canals.S3 and M3-Pro showed less transportation and better shaping efficacy.
