A survey on dental caries status and oral health behaviors among of the elderly people in the endowment institutions of xi'an

Abstract：Objective:To investigate the dental caries status and oral health behavior of the elderly in the endowment institutions of Xi'an.Methods:Using the group sampling method,the elderly aged more than 65 years in endowment institutions of Xi'an was selected to do oral examination according to the Third National Oral Health Investigation Criteria and the oral health behaviors of them were investigated by questionnaire.SPSS 18.0 software package was used for statistical analysis.Results:The prevalence of crown caries,root caries and filling rate was 70.90％,37.70％ and 2.95％ respectively.In the questionnaire survey about oral health behaviors,50.20％ of the elderly thought his/her oral health status was very good or good,only 34.43％ of the elderly brushed their teeth more than twice a day.Only two people used dental floss or interdental brush interproximal brushes to clean their teeth.Conclusion:The canes prevalence rate of the elderly in the endowment institutions was relatively high and the oral health awareness of them was deficient.Therefore,systematic measures should be takento improve the oral health status of the elderly in endowment institutions.
