Analysis of 56 cases of oral bleeding in the elderly

Abstract：Objective:To investigate the etiology and pathogenesis of oral bleeding in the elderly.Method:Clinical characteristics,aetiological agents from 56 oral bleeding cases of the elderly patients were studied to analyze the reason and pathogenesis.Results:The bleeding points were statistically counted from the 56 cases,in which 42 cases were from gingiva,5 of them were from buccal mucosa,5 of them were from lips and the rest 4 of them were from tongue.For the reason of bleeding:periodontal disease took up 5 cases,ill-fitted prosthesis took up 27 cases,venous malformations took up 6 cases,and occlusal trauma caused 5 bleeding cases,the rest of the 3 cases attributed to other reasons.After investigation,43 out of 56 cases had cardiovascular disorder history,and accepting medical treatment,8 cases had diabetes history.Only 5 of the cases denied relevant medical history.Conclusion:The reason of oral mucosa bleeding among aged population are complicated,caused by both local and systemic factors.It is important to prevent oral cavity bleeding in the elderly to strengthen the awareness of oral health care for the elderly,and effectively prevent and cure oral diseases in the elderly.
