Abstract:Objectives:T o investigate w hether teeth can be restored by post-core-onlay technique and w hat kind of m aterials should be used to restore them . Methods: H um an upper first prem olars w ere extracted, collected and restored respectivelyby3differentonlaymaterials:(1)M odelA,zirconiapostwithzirconiaonlay(2)M odelB,zirconiapostwith polymer-ceramicCeramage(Shofu,Japan)onlay(3)modelC,zirconiapostwithmetalonlay.Eachtoothwasscanedby New Tom Cone-beam computedtomography(CBCT).ImageswereacquiredandanalyzedbyusingM imics10.0software to get the 3-D finite elem ent m odel. T he stress distribution of the teeth and the prosthetics w ere analyzed according to the stress nephogram . Results: (1) A fter the teeth w ere restored by post-core-onlay technique w ith different m aterials, the equivalent stress w as m ainly located at the points of load application, regardless of vertical or oblique forces applied, and therewerenostressconcentrationnearthetipofthepost.(2)themaximum valuesoftheequivalentstresswereasfollows:zirconia>m etal> polym er-ceram ic. Conclusion:(1) T he first prem olars can be restored by post-core-onlay technique. (2) Thestressdistributionoftheteethtissueisinfluencedbythematerials,indicatingthatitisadvisabletousepolymer-ceramic clinically in order to avoid stress concentration due to its sim ilar m odulus of elasticity to dentine.
