The interrelationship between tooth loss and cognitive impairment-A community based study in Beijing

Abstract：Objective:To study the relationship betw een tooth loss and cognitive im pairm ent based on a com m unity in B eijing.Methods:1058 subjects from 4 com m unities atShijingshan,B eijing participated in this study.A tlast,666 people of60 yrorolderw ith com plete data ofdem ographic data,socioeconom ic status,system ic health status,blood biochem ical indexes, periodontal param eters and M ini-M ental State E xam nation (M M SE ) scores w ere enrolled in our study. Results:T ooth loss w as correlated w ith cognitive im pairm ent w hen adjusted for all the confounding factors (including age,sex, socia-econom ic status, system ic health status, drinking and sm oking habits)β=-0.035 (95% C I:-0.056, 0.014;P=0.001). Conclusion:T ooth loss is significantly correlated w ith cognitive im pairm ent, but the causal relationship needs to be explored further from perspective studies.
