Abstract:Objective:To investigate the effects of comfort care for reducing negative emotions for elderly patients receiv-ing maxillofacial surgeries.Methods:200 elderly patients who underwent maxillofacial surgeries from August 2010 to De-cember 2013 in our department were randomly divided into two groups (n=100), either receiving routine nursing care as the control group or comfort care as the experimental group after hospitalization , The clinical emotional assessment scale was conducted to access negative emotions of patients on admissions and discharge. Results:The negative emotional scale score of the experimental group at discharge (20.16±5.18) was significantly lower than the control group (42.25±8.36) (P < 0.05), while the incidence of medical disputes of the comfort care group was significantly reduced (1%),compared with the routine nursing care group (6.0%) (P<0.05).Conclusion:The effect on comfort care could have a negative-emotion-reduc-ing and pain-relieving effect on elderly patients receiving maxillofacial surgeries, worthy of clinical application.
