Abstract:Objective:To evaluate and analyze supportive periodontal therapy in periodontal maintenance of senile pa-tients.Methods:40 cases of elderly patients with chronic periodontitis from January 2013 to September 2013 were selected using random sampling, and were then randomly divided into two groups (n=20), either receiving the in-office supportive periodontal therapy as the experimental group, or the at-home treatment as the control group. Full mouth probing depths (PDs), clinical attachment levels (ALs) and the alveolar bone heights were recorded and analyzed at baseline and 12 months. Results:The mean changes of PDs, ALs, and the alveolar bone heights before and after treatments at the six sites each tooth in both groups were significantly greater than the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion:The supportive periodon-tal therapy can effectively maintain and improve periodontal health, thus is worth promoting.
