Effect of periodontal treatment on level of some inflammatory factors in serum in patients with CHD and moderate to severe periodontitis

Abstract：Objective:The study was assessed the effect of periodontal treatment to coronary heart disease through changes of TNF-α,Hs-CRP and MMP-9 in serum.Methods:A total of 50 participants with moderate to severe periodonti-tis and CHD were individed into two groups: periodontal treatment(n=25) and non-periodontal treatment(n=25). TNF-α、Hs-CRP and MMP-9 were measured before, 1 month and 3 months after local periodontal treatment. Proinflammatory cy-tokines were analyzed by ELISA. levels.The level of CRP uses immune turbidimetric method. Local periodontal treat-ments include Supragingival scaling and Subgingival scaling and root planing that treated for 2-4 times for one month.Re-sults:We detected a statistically significant decrease in TNF-α. Hs-CRP and MMP-9 levels at one or three months after pe-riodontal treatment(P<0.05 orP<0.01).Conclusion:Successful periodontal treatment decreases serum TNF-α、Hs-CRP and MMP-9 concentration. Cardiovascular risk status was significantly reduced.
