Abstract:Objective:To study the effect of two minimally invasive surgical treatment materials, Varnish XT and ICON penetrating resin on the color alteration of enamel white spots.Methods:100 incisors of cow were selected, leaving lip side down as the observation side, embedded with ethoxyline resin, and polished. Exposed area of each specimen was at least 6mm×10mm on the enamel face, and divided into five regions (A-E). Region E was sealed with antiacid nail polish before demineralization. The artificial caries was realized using a demineralization solution., Each region was treated with Varnish XT for region B, ICON resin infiltration for region C, and fluoride for region D, respectively, while Region A received no treatment. Electronic spectrophotometer was used to measure L*value, and micro hardness test of the surface micro-hardness of each region was analyzed. Results:After demineralization L* value of A, B, C, D increased remarkably. After treatment, each L*value of Region B, C and D was significantly lower than that of region A (P<0.05). Meanwhile, the L*values of Region C, B, and D were in ascending order, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05); The difference of L*value of B, D and E was statistically significant. No statistically significant differences of L*value between C and E were observed (P>0.05).
