Abstract:Objective:To observe the influence of 3 common vital bleaching methods on the enamel surface and the content of calcium in enamel. Methods:The coronal part of extracted premolars was cut in half mesiodistally, with either the buccal or lingual half bleached with 15% carbamide peroxide (CP; CH6N2O3) , a mixture of 15%CP and 30% hydrogen peroxide (HP; H2O2), 30%HP, respectively. Specimens were observed and measured with Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)and Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS).Results:The reduction of calcium content in the enamel was significant after bleaching (P<0.001), and the group treated with 15%CP showed the highes calcium reduction(P<0.01). Conclusion:The combined bleaching method is worthy of clinical promotion, due to shorter course of treatment and minor enamel decalcification.
