Abstract:Objective:To explore the effect of“BUSHENJIANGUTANG”on the serum levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6)and Osteocalcin(OC), and also investigate and the morphological changes of periodontal tissue in ligature-induced periodontitis rats.Methods:Twenty-four 12-month-old male SD rats were randomly divided into control group (group N, 8 rats) and periodontitis group (16 rats). Periodontitis was induced by ligature on the maxillary second molars. At 8 weeks after ligature, periodontitis rats were randomly subdivided into 2 groups, periodontitis rats without treatment (Group D, 8 rats), periodontitis rats treated with 16g/(kg·d)“BUSHENJIANGUTANG”intragastrical injection (group H, 8 rats). 4 weeks later, histological analysis of periodontium was performed. The serum IL-6, OC were detected by ELISA asssay. Results:There were obvious inflammations and alveolar bone loss in group D rats. Group H rats showed less inflammations and less bone loss. Serum IL-6 levels in group D were significantly higher than those in group N, H (P<0.05). Meanwhile, serum OC levels in group D were significantly lower than those in group N,H.Conclusions:These findings suggested“BUSHENJIANGUTANG”may exert therapeutic effect on periodontitis, at least partially by reduced serum IL-6 level and enhanced serum OC level in ligature-induced periodontitis rats.
