The clinical research of the common complication of 58 magnetic-attachment dentures

Abstract:Objective: To find out the complications and solutions of the magnetic attachments used in oral denture prostheses. Methods: 58 dentures were made with 123 magnetic attachments in 53 patients, which were followed up for 2~6 years, an average of 3 years. Results:8 dentures out of the 58 were fractured. Among the 123 keepers,6 were loose or fell off ,4 were abraded clearly. For the magnets, 5 of which were found to be loose or fell out. Signs of gingivitis were found in 24 of the 123 abutments. 7 roots were pulled out because of looseness, and another root was found fractured. Conclusion:Magnetic attachments can improve the retention force of the dentures. And the complications can be prevented or solved by appropriate selection of the candidates, correct operation, and regular follow-up during function.
