Abstract:Objective:To investigate the effect of bone mineral density anomaly on occlusal force. Method:From January to December 2013 in our department 120 female patients, aged from 60-65 years old, were enrolled in the study. According to the degree of bone mineral density, all patients were randomly divided into three groups, normal bone mineral density, decreased bone mineral density and osteoporosis. Occlusal force of the upper incisor, upper canine and upper first molar were detected. Results:For the upper incisor, compared with normal bone mineral density group (9.03 ±1.57) kg, occlusal force of the decreased bone mineral density group (8.28 ±1.34)kg or osteoporosis group (8.28 ±1.34) kg decreased signifi-cantly. For the upper canine, no significant difference was found between the normal bone mineral density group (13.17 ± 2.37) kg and decreased bone mineral density group (12.82 ±1.96) kg. However, both were significantly higher than the os-teoporosis group (9.67±1.44) kg. For the upper first molar, compared with normal bone mineral density group (16.38±2.18) kg, either occlusal force of the decreased bone mineral density group (14.57±2.52) kg or osteoporosis group (11.17±1.79)kg was reduced significantly. Conclusion:Bone mineral density anomaly could affect the occlusal force in middle-aged and aged patients.
