Hidden risks and prevention strategies for progressive hearing loss in children

Abstract:Progressive hearing loss in children refers to sensorineural hearing loss with gradually worsening hearing thresholds over time in childhood,characterized by its insidiousness,heterogeneity and high risks of disability.It is one of the important causes of hearing disability in children.This article systematically elaborates on the definition,characteristics,and core hazards of progressive hearing loss in children,analyzes major risk factors such as genetic factors,viral infections,noise exposure and ototoxic drugs,and focuses on the challenges in early identification and the precise prevention and control strategies based on risk stratification.It emphasizes the importance of establishing an active monitoring system and a multidisciplinary collaborative model to achieve early detection and precise intervention,thereby reducing the negative impact of PHLC on children's language,cognitive,and social skills,and ensuring their auditory health and all-round development.
