Abstract:Vestibular migraine(VM)is a common clinical disorder characterized by recurrent vertigo attacks.Mechanisms related to abnormal glutamate(Glu)metabolism in astrocytes may trigger VM.Abnormal glutamate metabolism in astrocytes may involve factors including transporters, ion channels, neurotransmitters interactions and abnormal glutamate-glutamine cycle, which can lead to excitotoxicity and neuronal death, activate the thalamus, and cause central sensitization phenomenon, resulting in dysregulation of multimodal information integration and processing at the vestibular-thalamus-cortical level. This article provides a comprehensive exploration of the specific role of abnormal glutamate metabolism in astrocytes in the pathogenesis of VM,aiming to provide new potential targets for the treatment of VM.
