Abstract:The vestibular system is the key to maintain balance and spatial orientation.Unilateral peripheral vestibule damage will cause a series of vestibular symptoms, which can gradually improve over a few days to a few weeks,a phenomenon known as"vestibular compensation".Vestibular compensation can be categorized as static or dynamic.Static compensation is mainly a localized phenomenon occurring within the vestibular nucleus, whereas dynamic compensation is the result of multiple aspects, and often involves global adjustments in the central nervous system. In this paper,we briefly review the current status of basic research on the central vestibular system participating in compensation in recent years, and potential directions of future research on vestibular compensation.
