A Case of Hearing Fluctuation After Upper Respiratory Tract Infection in a Child with Cochlear Implant
Abstract:Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) refers to auditory dysfunction caused by lesions in the cochlear auditory receptors and the auditory nerve pathways after the cochlea, which is a common disease in the department of otolaryngology [1]. Current treatment measures include early drug therapy and later hearing aid fitting, cochlear implant (CI), and auditory brainstem implantation [2]. As an effective treatment for severe and profound SNHL, most patients who receive CI can achieve effective and stable auditory rehabilitation. We encountered a child who had significant hearing fluctuations after an upper respiratory tract infection five years after CI surgery. This article reports the clinical manifestations of the patient and analyzes the possible causes of hearing fluctuations combined with the literature. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University (2023A-180), and the patient's family provided informed consent.
