Abstract:The incudostapedial joint(ISJ)is the most vulnerable part of the ossicular chain, and its injury can manifest as conductive hearing loss with surgical restoration of the integrity of the ossicular chain as the main treatment. At present, the accuracy of high resolution CT in diagnosing ISJ disorders remains to be improved, and outcomes of artificial ossicular prosthesis, mainly of titanium, are yet ideal. In recent years, the emergence of novel noninvasive diagnostic methods and new biohybrid prostheses have provided possibilities for accurate, effective and consistent diagnosis and treatment of ISJ disorders in the future. This article reviews the advancements in studies of biological anatomy, disorders classification, diagnostic methods, and reconstruction materials and techniques for ISJ disorders.
