Abstract:Objective To report a new index for assessing tinnitus severity, the Tinnitus Diary(TD),and to test its reliability and validity in tinnitus patients. Methods The original target pool for assessing the severity of tinnitus was initially formed through literature research and group discussion. The Delphi expert consultation method was adopted, and the screening of entries was completed through 2 rounds of expert consultation, combined with the threshold screening method and item analysis. The reliability and validity of the questionnaires were tested using data of 129 tinnitus patients. Results The authority coefficients of the two rounds of experts were 0.91 and 0.95 respectively.Four factors were identified by exploratory factor analysis, accounting for 80.183%of the total variance. The content validity index of the scale was 1.00,the Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the scale was 0.904,and the Spearman-Brown folded half reliability coefficient was 0.775.Conclusion The tinnitus diary compiled in this study demonstrate adequate reliability and validity, and it can be used as a new index for the evaluation of tinnitus severity, which enriches tinnitus evaluation tools and lays a foundation for further testing the tinnitus diary in the future.
