Abstract:Objective To investigate the level of family resilience among parents of children with cochlear implants, and the relationship between family resilience, mental resilience, perceived social support, social support and parental competence. Methods A convenience sampling of 284 parents of children who had received cochlear implants between September 2022 and September 2023 at a tertiary-level hospital in Changsha,Hunan,as well as a cochlear implant rehabilitation center. The Family Resilience Assessment Scale(FRAS),the 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale(CD-RISC-10),the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support(MSPSS),the Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS)and the Parenting Sense of Competence Scale(PSOC)were used for a questionnaires survey. Results The family resilience score was 76.17±12.91 and independently influenced by parents marriage quality and perceived social support. It had not only a direct(positive)effects on perceived social support(β=0.442,95%bias-corrected bootstrap CI:0.326~0.507),social support(β=0.394,95%bias-corrected bootstrap CI:0.203~0.347),and parenting competence(β=0.189,95%bias-corrected bootstrap CI:0.026~0.099),but also an indirect effect through mental resilience on perceived social support(β=0.127,95%bias-corrected bootstrap CI:0.067~0.197),social support(β=0.114,95%bias-corrected bootstrap CI:0.131~0.474),and parenting competence(β=0.138,95%bias-corrected bootstrap CI:0.027~0.070).Conclusion Parents of children with cochlear implants have insufficient levels of family resilience, and mental resilience mediates the relationship between family resilience and perceived social support, social support, and parenting competence, respectively. On the one hand, pediatric facilitators should focus on strategies to improve parental family resilience by improving relationship between the parents and increasing the level of perceived social support, and on the other hand, proactive mental resilience interventions are necessary because they are effective in increasing the level of parental social support and sense of parental competence, which will ultimately contribute to the proper development of the child.
