Two Cases of Unexplained Long Processus of the Incus Atrophy
Abstract:Atrophy of the long process of the incus is a secondary ossicular chain lesion, mostly caused by middle ear diseases, trauma, and other reasons. Its pathogenesis is not yet clear, and it is currently believed to be related to impaired blood supply of the long process of the incus and bone resorption of the long process of the incus. The clinical presentation of unexplained atrophy of the long process of the incus is conductive hearing loss with intact tympanic membrane. It is difficult to establish a diagnosis before surgery and is easily misdiagnosed as ossicular malformation. The treatment mainly includes tympanotomy and ossicular chain reconstruction, which has a good effect. This article reports two cases of unexplained atrophy of the long process of the incus, providing reference for clinicians.
