Clinical Characteristics of Otitis Media With Effusion and Tubal Torus Hyperplasia after Adenoidectomy in Children

Abstract:Objective To report features of otitis media with effusion caused by secondary tubal torus hyperplasia in children.Methods Clinical data of 20 children with post-adenoidectomy hyperplasia diagnosed and treated at the Department of Otolaryngology,Children's Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University,from January 2019 to April 2024(including 15 boys and 5 girls)were retrospectively analyzed,including nasal endoscopy,audiology tests and ear endoscopy.Results Fifteen patients underwent partial resection of tubal torus and myringotomy/tympanotomy,and 5 were treated conservatively.Six children had definite symptoms and signs of allergic rhinitis.Conclusion Tubal torus hyperplasia is a rare complication after adenoidectomy,which can cause otitis media with effusion in children.Surgical intervention is the treatment of choice.
