Diagnosis of Cochlear Nerve Deficiency and Hearing Intervention Strategies

Abstract:Patients with cochlear nerve deficiency(CND)are a group showing relatively poor response to intervention among patients with congenital hearing impairment in our country.With the development of society,both healthcare professionals and patients demand improvement in the understanding,diagnosis,intervention and rehabilitation of this condition.Once an absolute contraindication to cochlear implant,cochlear nerve deficiency is now considered a relative contraindication.With brainstem implantation being gradually adopted in the clinic,the rate of success rehabilitation among such patients is improving.However,for the uniqueness of this patient population,we decided to systematically summarize possible etiology,anatomical characteristics,imaging characteristics,audiological features,hearing aid fitting requirements,cochlear reconstruction electrical stimulation characteristics,etc,hoping to help otologists,audiologists and rehabilitation specialists in accurate understanding,early diagnosis and precision interventions to ensure ample time to facilitate hearing and speech rehabilitation before the age of 6.
