Abstract:The middle ear structure includes the tympanic membrane, ossicular chain, tympanic cavity,Eustachian tube, mastoid, etc.,which regulate middle ear pressure through a series of mechanisms, thereby affecting sound transmission. The key mechanisms in this process involve the decompression function of the tympanic membrane and mastoid, the ventilatory function associated with middle ear mucosa, the fine regulation of the opening and closing of the Eustachian tube, and the response mechanism of middle ear nerves.A profound understanding of these regulatory mechanisms helps optimize the strategy for middle ear surgery and the effectiveness of prevention and treatment of middle ear diseases. This article will review in detail the roles and mechanisms of middle ear structures such as the tympanic membrane,Eustachian tube, and mastoid air cells in the regulation of middle ear pressure.
