Abstract:Objective To report characteristics of mismatch negativity(MMN)in miniature pigs of different ages and discuss their roles in research on central auditory development and function. Methods Auditory MMN tests were performed using the classic Oddball stimulus paradigm on a Smart EP auditory evoked potential system in 3 and 6-month-old normal-hearing male miniature pigs(6[12 ears]each)under anesthesia. The latency and amplitude were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 software. Results Eleven of the 12 miniature pigs(22 ears,91.67%)exhibited typical auditory MMN waveforms. The average latency was 230.73±42.90 ms,266.10±20.22 ms in the 3-month-old group and 201.25±33.08 ms in the 6-month-old group(P<0.01).The mean amplitude was 3.28±2.28 µV with no significant difference between the two age groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Auditory MMN waveforms, latency and developmental trend in miniature pigs are similar to those in humans, suggesting that miniature pigs can serve as an appropriate animal model for studying central auditory development and function.
