A Case of Adult Temporal Bone Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis
Abstract:This article reports a case of an adult patient who presented with ear fullness as the initial symptom. Initially diagnosed with secretory otitis media, the patient was later confirmed to have temporal bone Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH). The male patient, aged 21, was admitted due to 'right ear fullness for one month'. Physical examination revealed mild congestion of the external auditory canal wall, intact and slightly congested tympanic membrane, bulging, and air bubbles in the middle ear. A mastoidectomy biopsy was performed, and the postoperative pathological biopsy suggested mastoid Langerhans cell histiocytosis. Due to its low incidence and rare reports in the field of otolaryngology, this article aims to increase awareness of the disease through analysis of the patient's otological features. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture People's Hospital (WYLS2024037). The patient and family provided informed consent for the study.
