Abstract:Objective To study the level of social support among parents of children with cochlear implants, and the path relationship between parenting stress, family resilience and social support. Methods A convenience sample of 283 parents of children with cochlear implants at a cochlear rehabilitation center in Changsha,Hunan Province, from August 2022 to August 2023,completed the Parenting Stress Index-Short Form(PSI-SF),Family Resilience Assessment Scale(FRAS),and Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS).Results The social support score in these parents was 40.00±9.08.Structural equation modeling showed that parenting stress had not only a direct(negative)effect on social support(β=-0.248,95%CI:-0.401~-0.081),but also an indirect effect on social support through family resilience(β=-0.182,95%CI:-0.331~-0.082).Conclusion Parents of children with cochlear implants have inadequate levels of social support.Family resilience mediates the effect between parenting stress and social support.Pediatric administrators may consider intervention strategies to reduce parenting stress and strengthen family resilience as a starting point to enhance the level of social support for these parents in order to promote normal development of their children.
