Abstract:Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(BPPV)is a common peripheral vertigo disorder that affects people across the world, more in females than males. The clinical diagnosis and treatment of typical BPPV is relatively easy, and the patients'symptoms can be significantly improved. However, for atypical BPPV,the diagnosis, treatment are tricky and recovery relatively poor. There are numerous possible causes for atypical BPPV,greatly varying influencing factors, which further complicate its diagnosis and treatment. As a result, the rate of misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis of atypical BPPV is higher than that of typical BPPV.This review focuses on possible influencing factors, mechanisms, and diagnostic and therapeutic considerations of atypical BPPV.
