Abstract:Noise in industrial, entertainment and military activities is increasingly causing problems.Recent studies suggest that inner ear inflammation is an important mechanism in noise induced sensorineural hearing loss.Macrophages are important immune cells in the inner ear, which can be divided into resident macrophages and infiltrating macrophages.Under normal conditions, macrophages can maintain the physiological structure and function of the cochlea.During acute noise-induced cochlea damage process, inflammatory pathways mediate the activation of macrophages,as well as macrophage infiltration and inflammatory factors release, resulting in the death of auditory nerve cells. We review the characteristics of cochlear macrophages and their involvement in noise-induced inflammation in the cochlea, and put forward a new idea for pharmacotherapy of noise-induced hearing loss.
