Abstract:Presbycusis, also known as age-related hearing loss(ARHL),is a bilateral progressive and symmetri-cal sensorineural hearing loss that occurs with the increase of Age.In the elderly population, peripheral or central audito-ry cells are vulnerable to damage.Once lost, they are difficult to regenerate or repair, leading to the occurrence of pres-bycusis.There is abundant evidence that mitochondrial dysfunction can be fatal to auditory cells during this process, and can also aggravate the threat from oxidative stress. Therefore,it is critical to understand the close relationship between mitochondrial dysfunction and presbycusis for the prevention and treatment of presbycusis. This article systematically reviews the relationship between mitochondrial dysfunction and presbycusis in order to provide new ideas and pathways for the research on presbycusis.
