Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in the Treatment of Sudden Hearing Loss with Comorbid Anxiety

Abstract:Objective To report results of cognitive behavioral therapy in the treatment of sudden hearing loss with comorbid anxiety.Methods Patients with sudden hearing loss(n=353)treated at the First Hospital of Zhengzhou University from June 2012 to June 2014 completed HAMA and SAS evaluation within 24 hours of admission.Those with HAMA score>50 and SAS score>17 received cognitive behavioral therapy(group A)in addition to routine drug treatments also administered to the rest of the patients(group B).The rate of hearing improvement was compared be-tween the two groups using the SPSS17.0 software.analysis on two groups of A and B,comprehensive treatment cura-tive effect comparison,Result For all patterns of hearing loss,the rate of hearing improvement was higher in patients receiving cognitive behavioral therapy than in those who did not(P<0.05).Conclusion In patients with sudden hearing loss and comorbid anxious state,psychological interventions,including education,counseling and relaxation training,is helpful not only to the patient's mental health but also potentially to hearing recovery.
