Abstract:Intratympanic drug delivery is one of the treatments for vertigo attacks in Ménière's disease, although its efficacy varies considerably among individuals, which may be related to the different efficiency of drug delivered in-to the inner ear.In addition, intratympanic injection of aminoglycosides carries a risk of sensorineural deafness.There-fore,improving intratympanic drug delivery efficiency and safety as well as injection methods has been a hot topic of re-search in this field.Recently, drug delivery systems constructed with novel biomaterials have shown promising applica-tions and are expected to reduce side effects while achieving vertigo symptom control through single dose administra-tion.The article reviews applications and action mechanisms of two commonly used drugs, gentamicin and dexametha-sone,in the treatment of Ménière's disease by intratympanic injection to lay a foundation for the development of new drug delivery systems and protocols for Ménière's disease.
