Abstract:Objective To investigate effects of intratympanic injection of methylprednisolone hyaluronic acid hy-drogel on hearing impairment caused by noise exposure in rats for its potential protective and therapeutic effects.Meth-ods Rats were randomly divided into a normal control group,a intratympanic methylprednisolone hyaluronic acid hydro-gel injection group,a noise exposure group and a noise exposure with intratympanic methylprednisolone hyaluronic acid hydrogel injection group.Auditory brainstem evoked potentials(ABRs)were measured and damage of hair cells ob-served using fluorescent staining laser confocal microscopy. Results Average ABR threshold was(35.1±9.3)dB SPL in the noise-exposure with intratympanic methylprednisolone injection group and(57.3±15.2)dB SPL in the noise-expo-sure only group(P<0.01).Conclusion Intratympanic administration of methylprednisolone has evidently protective and therapeutic effects on cochlear hair cells, and provides a theoretical basis for the treatment of inner ear diseases.
