Research Progress on COVID-19 Related Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss

Abstract:Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is the latest epidemic caused by severe acute respiratory syn-drome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).Studies have shown that SARS-CoV-2 is neurotropic and neuroinvasive,and can cause olfactory and taste dysfunction,as well as neurological and psychiatric disorders such as headaches,disturbance of consciousness,encephalitis and Guillain-Barré syndrome.Increasing evidence indicates that COVID-19 can involve hearing loss.The purpose of this article is to describe the latest research on sudden onset hearing loss(SSNHL)caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection,and to summarize the epidemiology,pathological mechanisms,clinical features,hearing as-sessment methods,treatments and prognosis of SARS-CoV-2 related SSNHL,to promote early detection,diagnosis,treatment and management of patients with condition.
