The Influence of Sex Hormones on Vestibular Diseases

Abstract：Many vestibular diseases are significantly more common in women than in men.Recent epidemiologi-cal studies further support this view.Despite an increase in research in this area,the mechanisms behind this imbalance remain unclear.Sex hormone fluctuations(such as during puberty,menstrual cycle,pregnancy and menopause)have been found to play an important role in a number of vestibular disorders.This paper reviews recent progress in this field,briefly discusses the effects of sex hormones on several common vestibular diseases,and expounds the underlying mech-anisms.
