Abstract:Objective To report subjective visual vertical(SVV)and subjective visual horizontal(SVH)lines de-tection in normal people and patients with Meniere's disease(MD)at different head tilt angles, and their potential corre-lation with factors such as gender and age,to provide a basis for their clinical utilities in the diagnosis of Meniere's dis-ease.Methods SVV and SVH lines were tested in normal control subjects and patients with acute MD or in remission with the head in the median position(0°)or tilted to left(L)or right(R)by 30°,45°or 60°.The normal range was estab-lished using data from normal subjects, and the correlation between SVV and SVH results and gender and age was ana-lyzed.Results were also compared between MD patients and normal subjects. Results SVV detection ranges were as fol-lows:R60°-2.638±7.594,R45°-4.276±7.186,R30°-3.053±5.762,0°-0.362±1.891,L60°-0.062±7.0408,L45°0.785±5.6192 and L30°0.541±4.810;and ranges of SVH detection were:R60°-2.038±6.681,R45°-3.400±6.108,R30°-3.394±4.449,0°-0.379±1.596,L60°0.512±5.700,L45°-0.309±4.555,and L30°1.344±4.369.SVV and SVH detection at these angles was not associated with gender and age in normal subjects(P>0.05).The results at median head position showed statistically significant differences between normal subjects and patients with acute or in-remission MD(P<0.05),but not at other angles. Results were also different between normal subjects and patients with in-remission MD,and be-tween normal subjects and patients with acute MD(P<0.05),but not between patients with acute MD and those with in-remission MD(P>0.05).Conclusion 1.Normative data of SVV and SVH detection were established for different head tilt angles. There is no correlation between SVV and SVH detection and age or gender.SVV and SVH detection tests may be more helpful for the diagnosis of MD with the head in the median position, and can be used for diagnostic pur-poses during both acute attacks and remission.
