An Internet-Based Self Hearing Test App for Hearing Health Monitoring

Abstract:Objective To report results of an internet based mobile self hearing test app. Methods Data of regis-tered users of the app collected from 2016 to 2017 were analyzed after integration processing, including user volume, age and geographical distribution, incidence and severity of hearing loss, etc. Results About 4.5 million people complet-ed online self testing using the app during 2016-2017, whose age was mainly in the 20-40 years range. Most users were in Beijing, Guangdong, Shandong and other industrially and commercially developed areas. Mild hearing loss was regis-tered in 26%, moderate hearing loss in 31%, moderate and severe hearing loss in 20%, severe hearing loss in 22%, and profound hearing loss 1%of the users. Conclusion The mobile device app is the first to be applied in population self hearing test with satisfactory results. This new mode of self-testing may provide great application values in future hear-ing health monitoring.
