Abstract:Objective To report rehabilitation outcomes in prelingually deafened children using China made Nu-rotron cochlear implants (CIs) . Methods A retrospective review was conducted in 74 prelingually deafened children, who were implanted with Nurotron CIs at Shenzhen Longgang ENT Hospital between June 2012 and December 2016. The subjects were divided into group A (1-6 years old) and group B (7-14 years old) according to the age at the time of cochlear implantation. Rehabilitation outcomes were assessed at 3, 6 and 12 months after switch-on, using Categories of Auditory Performance (CAP), Speech Intelligibility Rate (SIR) and Aided Hearing Threshold. Results The auditory and speech ability improved constantly, better in group A than in group B. Aided hearing thresholds at 3 months improved significantly compared with before implantation, while there was no significant difference among 3, 6 and 12 months . Conclusion The China made Nurotron CI system is safe and effective, providing continuous auditory and speech ability improvement in children. Duration of CI usage and the age of cochlear implantation are important factors that affect au-ditory and speech outcomes in prelingually deafened children.
